USDA Announces Grants for
Energy Projects Totaling $1.5 Million
for New England Firms

Northborough MA (11-10-2011) - Carey D Rhoten, CEO of THG Corporation, today announced that two executives of the company have been promoted and both are now members of the LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) for which they have worked for many years. THG Corporation has three subsidiaries, The Hope Group LLC, Sorensen Systems LLC, and Hope Air Systems LLC, which represent $45 million in industrial and engineering sales. The two who were promoted are Mike Gardella, of Sorensen Systems and Randy Roy, of The Hope Group.

Mike Gardella, who has served as Engineering Manager, was promoted to VP of Engineering and Manufacturing, Sorensen Systems LLC; and Randy Roy, who was Operations Manager, was promoted to Chief Operating Officer of The Hope Group LLC. The two men will continue to operate from the company's corporate headquarters in Northborough, MA. Carey Rhoten said, "Our success in the future is dependent on the fulltime commitment of our owner-managers, and I am pleased that Mike and Randy have demonstrated their increased commitment through membership in the LLC's."

According to Carey Rhoten, six years ago, the THG Corporation was reorganized as part of a plan to preserve and protect the stability of the company in the years ahead. To accomplish that, three new entities were established to reflect the growing market position of its main individual business segments. The new entities became Limited Liability Corporations (LLC) thus providing a continuity of management and ownership to ensure continuing success.

At the time of the announcement of this change in 2005, five long-time senior managers were officially installed as members of the various LLC's and assumed advanced responsibilities for each company. The five managers were Anthony (Tony) Cantone, President of The Hope Group LLC; Phil Lund, VP of The Hope Group; Mark Ferland, President of Sorensen Systems LLC; Randy Roy, Operations Manager of The Hope Group LLC; and Jay Hannon, CFO of THG Corporation.

With the decision earlier this year by Peter Rhoten to step down as President of Hope Air Systems LLC, his brother Carey Rhoten has temporarily assumed the role of President of Hope Air Systems as well as the role of CEO of THG Corporation. Six years ago, Carey Rhoten commented on the expected changes as "an exciting opportunity for our company and for all our employees. We are delighted that these outstanding individuals have agreed to assume a higher role with THG Corporation and its member companies, with an eye toward sustaining our years of success and building opportunities for all our employees in the years ahead," said Carey.

A Successful Decision

Today, looking back on the decision to reorganize and the impact on the company's operations over the past six years, the results have been very encouraging according to Carey Rhoten. "I am pleased that the managers agreed to become owners and to assume the responsibility for profitability and stability over the past six years. Their dedication and commitment have directly contributed to our achieving great success over the past six years and specifically to the most recent three years as the most profitable in our company's 78 year history," said Carey Rhoten.

Several important milestones were achieved during the past six years, including a 75th Anniversary of the founding of THG Corporation in 1933; a 50th Anniversary as an authorized full-line Parker Distributor, and the acquisition of a complimentary distribution company in Maine, which increased our Parker Store presence to six locations in New England.

Recognizing Corporate Milestones

In recognition of the 75th Anniversary of the ownership of THG Corporation by the Rhoten Family, a full-scale Open House, Trade Show Exhibition and Technical Seminar Series was held during October 2008 at the Northboro MA and Portland ME locations. The event attracted over 800 visitors to the Parker Tech Tour Truck, 600 participants to the Open House and nearly 400 attendees at the three days of technical seminars, which featured topics ranging from Hydraulic Plumbing to Mobile Electro-Hydraulics.

The year 2010 was another occasion for celebration as our relationship with Parker reached the 50 year milestone. As a full-line Parker distributor for the New England region, our product lines range from Hydraulics and Pneumatics to Fluid Connectors and Seals. In 1933 the company started as the Fitchburg Rubber Company when Francis "Doc" Rhoten made a deal with B.F. Goodrich to take over the franchise. When he took 100 percent ownership towards the end of WW II, he began an expansion that ultimately included adding Fluid Power components from Parker, Air Compressor systems and other industrial-focused products and services. The retail aspects of the business slowly disappeared.

Today, with six Parker Stores operating in four New England states, and a major warehouse/manufacturing location in Central Massachusetts near the intersection of I-290 and I-495, the company is well positioned to build on its reputation as the leading Motion and Control Distributor in the region. In addition, as part of Hope Air Systems LLC's responsibilities, the company became an authorized distributor of Kaeser Compressors in 2005. The Kaeser franchise permitted the company to expand its sales territory throughout the six-state New England region, to offer air compressors up to 600 HP and up, and became a representative of an innovative leader in the compressed air system industry.

Planning for the Future

Not satisfied with the successful reorganization and strong corporate performance over the past six years, the company has announced that it will embark on a year-long strategic planning program designed to establish corporate and management goals for the next three to five years and beyond. Commenting on the planned strategic initiative, Carey Rhoten said, "It is clear to me that without planning for the changes coming our way in the industrial and manufacturing environment in the region and around the world, we run the risk of being left behind – or worse, left out. That would not be an acceptable outcome after all these many years of prosperity and success," he added.

A group of senior and middle managers, under the professional direction of strategic planning experts, will undertake a formal process of evaluating options, choosing actionable activities, and establishing goals and objectives that will direct the future operations of THG Corporation and its three subsidiary LLC's. The project will commence in October 2011 and continue into the early months of 2012.

According to Carey Rhoten, the past six years have been highly successful in expanding the company's presence in New England as a Motion and Control solutions provider focused on the evolving markets of the region. The changes made six years ago, along with the on-going planning for the future are all part of the company's efforts to remain viable for the long term.

"As the Defense, Life Science, Semiconductor, and Power Generation markets have begun to supplant the traditional Plastics, Pulp & Paper, and Mechanical Tool manufacturer markets of New England, the THG Corporation companies have moved to meet the changing needs aggressively," said Carey Rhoten. "The future looks bright and the company is poised to capitalize on what lies ahead," he added.
